Around 30 people are employed here including cooks, gardeners, governesses, chambermaids, waiters and pirogue skippers, all from the local village. Life in a lodge is unbelievably relaxing. Superbly produced, featuring a slender architectural style making extensive use of wood and traditional materials such as rosewood or sohihy, the warm brown shades and subtle highlights of your lodge make this the perfect place to unwind. The roofs produced from Ravinala trees (also known as the “Traveller’s Tree”) offer excellent natural ventilation. Each lodge has its own character. The fresh products which we select are obtained from both our own organic kitchen garden and our main gardens in which we grow fruit, vegetables, herbs and aromatic plants of all kinds, while the amazing fish and crustaceans are delivered to us each day by local fishermen onboard their pirogue boats.

Thanks to a genuine love for these products, combined with the talent, innovation, passion and boldness displayed by our chef when weaving his magic, you will quickly become familiar with the dolphin fish, the yellowfin tuna, the Jack Crevale, the barracuda, the swordfish and the kingmackerel… and you’ll certainly appreciate the delicious prawns or giant freshwater prawns and naturally the rock lobsters (according to season). Scuba-diving or snorkelling are some of our guests’ favourite activities as just few minutes away from the hotel you can admire and explore the sheer beauty of the ocean depths.
Nature lovers can choose between several trips which will take them to the Mitsio archipelago, to the Baie des Russes (Russian Bay), to Kisimany or to Mamoko, to see some amazing sights.
Fishing lovers will be spoiled for choice, including sport fishing, troll fishing, bottom fishing or popper fishing among others. Whatever your favourite type of fishing, our guides are on hand to take you to the best spots!
Nosy Komba is an amazing island to explore. It is actually a former volcano which is today covered by a magnificent primal forest home to all kinds of trees, plants and flowers. Here, you can meet the mischievous black lemurs, the slow yet lively chameleons not to mention some extraordinarily beautiful birds and butterflies.
Enjoy exploring the nearby beaches, or a visit to the village of Ampangorina where the women embroider tablecloths and the men produce woodcarvings.
If you are looking for snorkelling, beach volleyball, beach racketball, badminton, frisbees or pirogue/canoe trips, a spot of bottom fishing, kite flying, reading or parlour games, all the equipment you need is available free of charge in the main lodge or at the beach.

Protecting this extremely fragile environment…
The island of Nosy Komba is situated among one of the world’s richest ecosystems. In a concrete manner, we seek to encourage respect for the environment in order that everyone can take advantage of the outstanding biodiversity of this region both today and in the future.
To achieve this, at Tsara Komba Lodge, we work based on detailed procedures in order to maintain best practices such as recycling (with schemes in place to recycle metal, plastics and packaging as well as household waste) and the use of environmentally friendly materials (such as commercially grown wood and local plants, etc).
We take care to ensure the prudent use of water, which is drawn from a water source and which arrives at the lodges thanks to a gravity-fed system. Wastewater undergoes natural filtering and is used to irrigate the gardens, which are also fertilised with compost produced on site.
Finally, to limit our impact on CO2 emissions we use solar boilers for warm water, take advantage of the economical hours for electricity generation and use low voltage lighting.
The absence of televisions, telephones and air-conditioning in the lodges in addition to our ongoing quest for added simplicity are all aspects of our efforts to minimize our impact on the environment.
We are increasing our educational efforts among local people to encourage them to break the cycle of deforestation, a key aspect of slash-and-burn farming but one which is harmful to the environment, while instead recommending other, less destructive farming methods to them.
As we see it, the creation of wealth and its redistribution are the founding principles underpinning our work each and every day.
To achieve this, in as far as possible we purchase our fish, seafood, local materials and plants in the local region on a daily basis. The on-site craftsmen and maintenance staff who handle the upkeep of our lodges are recruited locally, thereby providing additional resources for the families of the neighbouring village, most of whose revenue comes from fishing and farming.
Additionally, thanks to our micro-loan scheme, we finance the pirogue boats so vital to the island’s fishing or travel activities, or the transportation of goods and people.
Promoting social responsibility…
Almost all of our employees live in the neighbouring village. Their salaries and the social benefits accompanying these have a major impact on the village’s economy on an island on which employers are extremely rare.
We provide our teams with high-quality training and payment of their health treatment by setting up a health fund just for the hotel, in addition to the local social services already available here. At Tsara Komba Lodge, social responsibility is a way of life.
“TK”, a key partner to the NGO “Des Villages Et Des Hommes”
Working closely with the NGO “Des Villages Et Des Hommes” we provide active support to the neighbouring village of Antrema located less than a kilometre away, where approximately 150 people live. The programme in the process of being implemented initially involves rebuilding homes in keeping with local architectural styles, installing a water conveyance system, supplying mosquito nets, building toilet blocks and subsequently facilitating access to health care and education with the construction of a school and finally a library.
As a genuine driving force in the local community, Tsara Komba Lodge acts locally to help ensure that environmental and social development efforts succeed.
We believe that our clients and travellers in general are all key players in the sustainable development process. Their stay at Tsara Komba Lodge offers a chance to experience another culture but also to take part in helping this culture thrive, survive and develop harmoniously.
