The Makira – Maroantsetra trek via Nosy Mangabe offers a total immersion in one of Madagascar’s wildest and best-preserved areas.

Just a 30-minute boat ride across Antongil Bay, the Nosy Mangabe reserve offers the chance to observe lemurs, geckos, and the world’s smallest chameleon in the heart of lush natural surroundings.
| Arrival at Maroantsetra Airport; meetand-greet and transfer by car to the port; a brief overview of the itinerary with the guide, followed by a motorboat trip upriver to Andranofotsy; then a relatively easy hike of about an hour along a wide, mostly flat trail to reach the camp; While exploring the Farankaraina Private Park, you can see chameleons, several bird species such as the Madagascar crested ibis, the white-fronted brown lemur, and the bamboo lemur; after a short rest, take a twilight walk in search of the Aye-Aye and the greater pygmy lemur; overnight stay with full board at the Aye Aye Camp. |

Departure at 5:30 a.m. after breakfast, followed by a transfer to Ankompa lasting approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes; continue along the Antenambalana River, a journey of about 4 hours to the landing point at Andaparaty; packed lunch along the river or at the camp, depending on the departure time from Farankaraina; the day continues with a long hike (difficult – an uphill climb on a slippery trail) of about 3 hours to reach the prospectors’ camp; therefore, good physical condition is required for this excursion; Makira Nature Reserve is home to the largest remaining intact block of dense low- and mid-altitude rainforests in Madagascar, rich in unique flora and fauna; after a rest, departure to spot the white-handed lemur and other nocturnal species; dinner and overnight stay at the camp.
| 3 days in the mountains to explore this natural paradise; the trails through the rainforest are generally not muddy, but the surface can be slippery after recent rain; some trails are wide and flat, while others are narrow and rugged, with rocks and roots underfoot; in addition to spectacular landscapes, you can discover various species of plants endemic to the region, as well as lemurs such as the white-fronted brown lemur, the red-bellied lemur, the indri…, birds, frogs, chameleons, a dense network of rivers and waterfalls, several sacred sites, … Full-board camping during the excursions. |

After breakfast, enjoy a long hike down the mountain to take in the wildlife and flora, then continue by boat to Maroantsetra; upon arrival, transfer to the hotel; dinner and overnight stay.
| After breakfast, depart by boat for the Nosy Mangabe Reserve in Antongil Bay; set up camp and continue the program with a visit to this dense tropical forest and its extraordinary biodiversity to discover various plants endemic to the reserve, lemurs (diurnal and nocturnal), leaf-tailed geckos, amphibians, birds, tenrecs… Afternoon at leisure; twilight walk to encounter the Aye-Aye if you haven’t seen it on previous days; full board at the camp. |

Breakfast at the camp; depending on the flight schedule, return by boat to Maroantsetra and transfer by taxi to the airport for the flight to Antananarivo.
