Berenty Private Reserve

The private Berenty reserve belongs to a family of French settlers, and is what remains of the primary forest that was once present; in fact, all around, as far as the eye can see, there are plantations of sisals (Agave sisalana), plants used for the extraction of their fibre, which was once much in demand in the textile sector.

This small reserve, with its deciduous forest, is an ideal place to observe lemurs, including the beautiful Dancing Sifaka, the ring-tailed lemur (Lemur catta), the red-fronted lemur (Eulemur fulvus rufus) (all diurnal), and the tiny nocturnal grey mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus).

The reserve is home to around 100 plant species, 80 bird species, including the Madagascar Buzzard and the Blue Vanga, and 26 reptile species, including chameleons and the radiated tortoise.
