The park is located north of Morondava on the western coast, in the Menabe region, inhabited by the Sakalava ethnic group.
It is accessible by way of a trail crossing through the deciduous forest, with tall baobabs.
This park is known for its high level of endemism owing to the presence of two distinct biotypes, that of the west and that of the south.
There are medicinal plants, lemurs, and birds both in the dense, dry, deciduous forest and in the transition zone between the dry and semi-arid climates.
Various lemurs are found there, including the beautiful Sifaka and the sociable Eulemur fulvus rufus (red-fronted lemur), both diurnal.
